Photographs, when done correctly, can create a wonderful panorama of wedding memories. And during a wedding, it's not uncommon to find everyone getting in on the photographing fun - either as a photographer or as the subjects of photography. These quick snap shots are a delightful way to capture a moment; however the work of professional wedding photographer captures more than a moment. Professional photographs capture a feeling, an atmosphere, and an ambience... the essence of the wedding itself and consequently, invoke each and every memory of the wedding from a simple two-dimensional surface.

Hiring a wedding photographer is easy. But to hire a good wedding photographer takes a little bit of research and patience. You'll need first find one and then make sure that your wedding photographer is capable of recreating your wedding with a professional touch. You can ask friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, associates to recommend a photographer for you, or you can look for one in your local Yellow Pages. If you choose to use the Yellow Pages to find a wedding photographer, look for one who advertises with a large ad. A large ad suggests that its advertiser (wedding photographer) earns enough money to pay for space. Photographers who earn enough money for a large ad space must get a lot of repeat business or recommendations from satisfied customers.

Whether you locate a wedding photographer from recommendations or the Yellow Pages, you will need to schedule an interview to review his or her work and get a price range. A professional photographer will have a portfolio with high quality photographs, an impressive set of equipment, a list of references, and a contract. You may need to interview several before you find an acceptable wedding photographer.

During your interview, you may want to ask your wedding photographer if he or she will be the one who will take the pictures. Some photographers send their assistants to do the job, rather than attend the job and take the photos themselves. Another question you want to ask is when the wedding photographer will be available. Some are so busy that you may need to start hunting for one an entire year ahead of time! And since almost everyone you know and care about will attend your wedding, ask if your wedding photographer is capable of (and/or willing to) to take photos of the entire family, or photos of groups of family at times.
